Jun 16, 2017 - By Daniel Bendtsen, Staff WriterNecole Hernandez, literacy facilitator at Ashgrove elementary school in Riverton, has been tapped to be the interim principal at Ashgrove after the retirement of Alleta Baltes.
Riverton superintendent Terry Snyder said Hernandez was "the clear, unanimous choice" after the district when through "exactly the same process that we would have gone through for a full-time principal."
Hernandez has experience as an instructional facilitator, which Snyder said is ideal for administrators "so that they have the confidence of their staff -- that thy know what they're talking about.
Hernandez is in her fourth year in the Riverton school district and attended Ashgrove as a child.
"I'm very proud of you, young lady," Hernandez's former teacher and current school board member Larry Chouinard told her.
Snyder said being an interim principal is a tough challenge and Hernandez will receive the same pay as a full-time principal.
"Sometimes being an interim can be an even greater challenge, because if your staff believes you're interim, they might just try and wait you out if you're trying to implement new initiatives," he said.
