Swimmers head to Gillette, not KW

Dec 6, 2012 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

The Riverton Wolverine swim team will begin its season with a relay meet at the Campbell County School Aquatic Center in Gillette this Friday instead of at a relay meet at Casper Kelly Walsh as was reported Wednesday.

Twelve schools are scheduled to compete at the season's first meet in Gillette. Competing with the Wolverines will be Casper Kelly Walsh, Green River, Laramie, Sheridan, Buffalo, Newcastle, Casper Natrona, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East and Cheyenne South.

On Saturday, the Wolverines will remain in Gillette and swim in the Gillette Pentathlon instead of swimming in Lander.

"Casper had some sort of issues, so Gillette is hosting relays on Friday and their pentathlon on Saturday," RHS assistant activities director Tim Bell said.

During pentathlon-style meet Saturday, swimmers compete in five different events and combine those scores for a grand total. Each swimmer will go 100 yards in each stroke (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and then swim a 50-yard freestyle. Junior varsity swimmers will swim a 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard events in the four strokes.

Members of the Riverton Wolverine swim team are seniors Stephen Hinkle, Chade Hansen, Eli Horyza and Andrew Dayton; juniors Julius Heimann, Erik Horyza, Tyler Matsen, James Jaramillo, Adrian Cook, Tyler Campsey, Caleb Heil, Rumello Cortez, Bryan Vanskike, Ryan Murdock, Dakota Bryan, Justyn Root, Travis Fischer, Baylor Beers and Ben Zoller according to the roster released by the RHS activities office Wednesday.
