Weekend road trip ends in split for WIHS Lady Chiefs

Jan 20, 2013 - By Randy Tucker, Staff Writer

Wyoming Indian's girls picked up a split on the road this weekend with a 51-33 loss to the Kemmerer Lady Rangers on Friday and a 53-42 win over Big Piney on Saturday.

The Chiefs played well early in Friday's game, but Kemmerer found an answer to Wyoming Indian's pressure defense in the second quarter.

The Chiefs scored just four points in the period as Kemmerer's press breaker kicked in and limited the number of shots Wyoming Indian was able to take.

"They handled the press really well, "Wyoming Indian head coach Aleta Moss said.

Beating the press and converting at the free throw line are always key aspects of a game against a pressure-defense team, and the Rangers were able to do both.

Kemmerer shot an impressive 18 of 21 from the line in the contest including 11 of 13 in the final period. Saturday's win moves the Lady Chiefs to 2-2 in the Southwest conference and a current third place seed behind Wind River and Kemmerer but ahead of Shoshoni and Big Piney.

The Chiefs have a single game this weekend, but it should be very interesting as the top-seeded Lovell Bulldogs out of the Class 2-A Northwest come to Ethete.
