Feb 24, 2013 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports EditorCASPER -- Dubois High School wrestlers Sterling Baker and Cody Flynn have been hooked on winning all season long.
They both did it again Saturday, taking Class 2-A state wrestling titles one after another at the Casper Events Center.
Baker won his title with a 16-0 decision over Colby Thurston of Lusk in the finals at 195 pounds. Baker was ranked No. 1 in Class 2-A in his weight class. He entered the state tournament with a 45-2 record.
Flynn captured the 220-pound title with a pin over Riggen McIntosh from Lingle-Fort Laramie in 4:38. Flynn also was a favorite for his championship.
The two were part of the first ever 6-man football championship for DHS in November after the Rams defeated Little Snake River in the finals at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.
Baker dominated his weight class in a pair of early round matches. In the quarterfinals Baker won a 17-1 decision against Moorcroft's Clayton Svalina in the quarterfinals.
Baker added another large victory in the semifinals vs. Nolan Schindler from Pine Bluffs in a 16-0 win.
Flynn pinned Johnathan Tindell from Moorcroft in his first match at the state tournament. Flynn recorded his second pin of the tournament over Kodey Lamont of Burns.
In the semifinals, Flynn went all three periods,but still took an easy 11-1 win.
Shoshoni freshman Connor Wilkinson ended the first state tournament of his career with a second-place finish at 113 pounds.
Wilkinson was a No. 1 seed for the Class 2-A state tournament after winning the regional tournament last weekend.
He proved he belonged to have the high ranking at the state in the weekend at Casper, getting two big victories in the early rounds to advance into the semifinals.
With a state title spot on the line, Wilkinson pinned Tyler Pohoman from Burns.
In the finals, Kole Schell of Moorcroft won a 7-0 decision over Wilkinson for the championship.
Wilkinson's teammate Patrick Forester was third at 220 pounds. Danny Huxtable (126 pounds) and Trinityn Nitchmen (106) were both fifth for the Wranglers.
Galen LaGois was sixth at heavyweight for SHS.
Wind River's Charles Oldman finished fourth in the heavyweight position. WRHS wrestlers Keanen Pfisterer (106 pounds), Alex Collver (152) and Dalton Perkins (138) were sixth.
