Feb 24, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff WriterThe Riverton Lady Wolverines outscored the Evanston Lady Red Devils in the final three quarters of Saturday's final regular-season basketball game in Evanston just like they did when they played in Wolverine Gym earlier this month.
The end result, though, was the same. Evanston had an early lead, survived a late Riverton comeback, and beat the Lady Wolverines 33-30.
Evanston finishes the Class 4-A West with a 5-5 record in fourth place, and the Lady Wolverines end in fifth with a 2-8 league record.
The two teams will play again at 4 p.m. Thursday during the first-round, loser-out game of the Class 4-A West regional tournament, according to RHS head coach Ron Porter.
Savannah Salisbury, who led all scorers with 17 points, drilled two free throws with 1:56 left to play, and Bree Olson tied the game at 30-30 with 1:05 left, but Riverton could not grab the lead.
Jensyn Pettit scored nine for Riverton.
Porter credited his bench of Annie Phister, Kaitlyn Wells, Celia Logan and Maci Evans with solid minutes in the second half that helped Riverton get back in the game after being down by as many as 12 points.
Evanston shut down Riverton's two top scorers, sophomore center Kiley Ridgway and sophomore guard Camey Fegler. Ridgway had two points, while Fegler was held scoreless four days after scoring 21 against Green River.
It was Riverton's third loss of the year by a three-point margin. The team also has two overtime losses.
Turnovers again plagued the Wolverines, who committed 25 in the game.
