No. 1 Douglas girls trounce Lander 56-28

CASPERR00;-- Douglas remains perfect in Class 3-A girls basketball.

The Lady Bearcats grabbed an early 19-3 lead after the first period on Thursday night and rolled past Lander Valley High School 56-28 in the opening round of the state tournament at the Casper Events Center.

Douglas moved to 27-0 on the season. LVHS fell to 12-15 on the season.

Douglas is a No. 1 seed from the 3-A East.

The Tigers had a No. 4 seed for the double-elimination tournament. The previous trip to state for the Tiger girls came in the 2009 season.

LVHS beat Lyman 68-59 Friday morning in a consolation game. The Tigers will play at 9 a.m. Saturday for the consolation championship vs. Buffalo.

Douglas advanced to a Friday afternoon game vs. Newcastle .

Newcastle edged Lyman 38-35 Thursday night.

Star Valley and Rawlins played in the other semifinal game.

Douglas 56, Lander 28

Douglas raced out of the blocks for a 10-0 lead, forcing LVHS coach Spike Robinson to use a quick timeout at the 5:47 mark.

Lander's Kaylynn Cox-Mantlo hit one of two free throws to get the Tigers on the scoreboard at 11-1.

Shanda Post scored her first field goal of the game at 15-3.

Post and Kassidy Scott of Douglas are two of the top scorers in Class 3-A.

The game Thursday belonged to Scott.

She helped Douglas take a commanding 23-3 lead with six minutes left in the first half.

Robinson took another timeout. It didn't help.

The Lady Bearcats had its largest lead of the first half at 34-5.

Douglas held a 34-8 commanding lead at halftime.

LVHS outscored Douglas 16-14 in the third quarter, but the game was far out of reach.

Scott paced Douglas with 19 points.

Molly Kreycik scored 10 points.

Keesha Rowan recorded game-high efforts at 13 points. Post put in 10 points for LVHS. She was 5-17 from the field.
